Cafe Otis and The Open Circle in Norwich present “The Topic,” a community conversation held from 6:30 to 8 on the third Wednesday evening of the month beginning August 21. Led by David Horst of The Open Circle and hosted by Cafe Otis, the program is inspired by Krista Tippett’s Civil Conversation Project at OnBeing.org. Participants engage in a facilitated conversation and personal story-telling on a variety of thought-provoking topics.
The August 21 topic is “Hope”: What was a time in your life when you felt most hopeful? What do you do to pull yourself out of an emotional funk? Where do you find hope in our community, nation, and world right now?
Future topics are “Happiness,” “Beauty,” and “Gratitude.” Food and beverages are available. Teens, adults, and seniors are welcome.
Conversations are anchored in the “grounding virtues” of The Civil Conversation Project: Adventurous civility, hospitality, generous listening, patience, humility, and words that matter. Come listen and be heard in a welcoming and nonjudgmental space. Learn from others and explore your own ideas and feelings as you develop the art of deep listening and honest speaking. Hear other’s stories and share your own. Be changed. Be transformed.
